Guide to Bad Rhymes

English popular music is fraught with over-used rhymes, word pairs plucked from the bag of the uncreative poet. A bag that finds its way around the English-speaking world year after year.

The WCSL Department of Music has compiled a list of the most annoying, cliché words pairs that should be avoided as much as possible. They represent the most widely used rhymes that can ruin songs by their predictability. For many of the more common vowel sounds, there are up to four usual picks by the bad song writer.

As few as there are, these word sets represent a surprisingly large percentage of song rhymes. With each new year come more songwriters who lack the innovation to dig a little deeper and find a better rhyme. They resort to the same tired, old, high school rhymes like so many before them.
